Dried Pasilla Chilies (also known as black chili) are thin, long, dark chilies used in Mole sauces and salsas in Mexico. Its name means 'little rasing' due to its sweet, rich almost chocolaty flavour and black and wrinkly apperance. When fresh, it is known as 'chilaca chili' and it is grown in the central regions of Mexico. It is the main ingredient used in Oaxaca's black mole sauce. Not to be confused with Ancho Chili!
